National SJ Qualifier at Elstead RC field - 27th May 2017

Wow what a day.... everything we touched turned to GOLD.

We started the day with the 70cms team, which was filled with new or recent members. The first round was nice but a bit slippery on the corners after the mornings rain, so the riders had to ride with caution.
Erin Lewis went first in the first round with Joshua, he was super just getting 4 faults after a stop. Sarah Roberts steered Buzz round to a lovely clear, and this was followed by Linsey Evans and Joanna Marsh also riding wonderful clears. NCRC supporters were of course making plenty of noise to support our riders.
So we took a 0 through to the second round.

The second round was in a different arena, so we had a new course and undulations to contend with.
Erin stormed round to a lovely clear, riding with great confidence. Sarah was in next and Buzz pulled out another clear. Linsey managed to contain Jack's enthusiasm and rode a fantastic clear. Joanna convinced Achilles to go into the arena and then just had an unlucky 4 faults after a nearly perfect round.

This meant the team had finished on a 0 - so finished 1st and have managed to qualify for the NAF National Championships at Lincoln at the first time of trying. Linsey also finished second individually with Sarah in third. Well done team.

The 80 team had a hard act to follow.....
Alison Warne was on first with Ruby in the first round and had a foot perfect spin, finishing clear. Wendy was in next but unfortunately Smash got slightly anxious and didn't like the first part of the double so was eliminated. Kathryn Blowers who very gallantly stood in and only had four days notice, rode a superbly smooth and confident round for a clear. Kim Carey was in fourth and she was riding the ever lovely Gunner, they strolled round to a lovely clear.
The team took through a 0.

The second course was once again in a new arena.
Alison rode Ruby to another wonderful clear. The course was really causing problems by the time Wendy went in, but the determined Wendy rode well to get just 8 faults. Kathryn and Sam once again had a really lovely round and just knocked the first jump to finish on four faults. Kim was last to go for the team and continued her streak of clear rounds.

This meant that the team finished well ahead of the other teams to win! Alison, Kim and Kathryn also finished second, third and sixth individually. Brilliantly ridden and congratulations team.

Surely it couldn't happen again....
Cally Ingram was riding as an individual in the 90cms class. Otter was hot after getting stuck in some horrendous traffic, but managed to shrug that off with a confident clear in the first round.
After a quick wash off, the second round was ready to jump. To keep the drama going, Otter and Cally decided to tap or rub every jump and added in some strides here and there but they still managed to finish clear.
The supporters were very happy!!
Cally won the class and has also qualified for the Nationals. Superb!!

Let the planning commence for 2nd-3rd September at the Lincoln Showground....
Thanks so all riders, horses, supporters, drivers, family members and even dogs who came to support.

12 February - Novice Winter SJ qualifier

A brilliant day out showjumping with teamies Lisa Smith and Connor, Kathryn Blowers and Rome, Wendy Caller and Smash, and Alison Warne and Ruby.  First up and second in were Lisa and Connor and they had a brilliant round with one tiny rub at the last finishing on 4.  Given this was only the second time she’d ever sat on him, I couldn’t have been more thrilled. Next in were Kathryn and Rome and they produced a super clear round.  Wendy and Smash were up next and in truth I wasn’t holding out much hope as neither had ever stepped foot/hoof inside this ‘tiny’ area and she’d not had a chance to walk the course.  Nevertheless, I gave firm instructions not to muck it up (I think that’s what I said) so no one was more surprised than me when they flew over the last to produce our second clear round of the day!  Next in was our most brilliant and reliable, super-talented combination Alison and Ruby and you can guess the rest – yes, our first round finished on 0!

All the riders managed to walk the course for the second round and Lisa and Connor, Kathryn and Rome, Wendy and Smash and Alison and Ruby all produced awesome clear rounds!  We had finished both rounds on 0!  Abinger Forest who’d gone just before us had also finished on 0 but it turned out we were the only two teams to do so, so off we went to tack up the ponies again for the jump off!  Abinger Forest and Newlands Corner both had highs and lows but it seemed their highs outweighed ours on this occasion…  We pipped them to the post to qualify last year so I’m pleased they have a chance to go this year.

I couldn’t be more proud of our team today and special thanks to Sue and Kathryn’s lovely chap for helping!  Also, huge thanks to Lisa for riding Connor for me – simply inspirational!
